Three schemes designed by Stride Treglown have been shortlisted for this year’s regional BCO awards
One of the BCO's primary objectives is to define excellence in office space. As part of this objective our annual Awards Programme provides public recognition for top quality design and functionality and a benchmark for excellence in workplaces. The Programme acknowledges innovation and focuses external attention on examples of best practice.
Badminton Road is the new HQ for South Gloucestershire Council. This highly sustainable office development acts as a gateway building on a site to the edge of Yate with architecture that responds to its locality as well as the client's brief to be a landmark development. Sustainable design principles such as natural ventilation, passive heating and cooling, SUDS drainage, rainwater harvesting, optimal use of recycled materials, aggregates and onsite renewables which have informed the architectural principles of the design.
One Glass Wharf in Bristol is the new home of solicitors, Burges Salmon. The 19,500 sqm office, forms the centrepiece of a major urban regeneration scheme adjacent Temple Meads station and has a prominent waterfront location and undulating terracotta, zinc and glass façade make it an individual and exciting new addition to the Cities business quarter. Six storeys of office accommodation and food/drink offers are planned around a long, central atrium. The atrium is crossed by a huge entrance 'slot' which houses a spectacular six storey helical stair and forms one of three key axes illustrated by the site's original masterplan. This light, airy space maintains a visual link for those outside the building whilst a fifth floor terrace affords stunning panoramic views across the city for staff and clients.
Finally, Treglown Court our new office in Cardiff has achieved BREEAM outstanding at design stage. The building has been designed to accommodate over 50 staff on two floors in an open plan studio arrangement linked by an open tread staircase. The 500sq.m building will breathe new life into a former industrial development, which is being redeveloped into offices. The wedge shape design responds to its orientation and site entrance arrangement, whilst the building's section and materiality respond to the desire for an exemplar building in sustainability, minimising energy consumption, waste and providing renewables on site. It has achieved a Grade A Energy Performance Certificate rating of 22 and its predicted emissions are just 14.2kgCO2/m2 per annum.
