Treglown Court - Carbon Neutral

Stride Treglown Win Wales Architect Of The Year As Its Cardiff HQ Heads For Carbon Neutral

Stride Treglown has been named Wales Architectural Practice of the Year as the architects announce a £65,000 investment in its quest for a carbon neutral Cardiff office.

Honoured at Insider magazine's annual Wales Property Awards last Thursday 23 June, Stride Treglown celebrated amongst 220 of their peers during the lively awards evening at Cardiff's Mercure Holland House Hotel.

The judges were impressed by Stride Treglown's mature and refined approach, as well as successful projects including the Genealogy Experience and Records Office at Ebbw Vale, Penyrheol Comprehensive School in Swansea and the company's Cardiff office, Treglown Court.

The architects have since announced they will invest £65,000 in installing 115sq.m of photovoltaics on the roof and south facade of the new office to make it Carbon Neutral, believed to be the first privately funded office in the UK to do so.

As the UK's first BREEAM Outstanding Office at design stage in October 2009, Treglown Court continues to illustrate the company's commitment to sustainability.

Already performing well with building emissions some 40% less than current Building Regulations with a target of reaching zero, the building incorporates many energy saving features including a biomass boiler, high insulation standards, natural ventilation and a small array of photovoltaics.

The much larger array of photovoltaics will enable net carbon emissions resulting from energy consumed in the operation of their space heating/cooling, hot water systems, ventilation and internal lighting to be zero or better.
