Stride Treglown Gains Top Spot for Harvey's Foundry

Truro based architect company Stride Treglown has been awarded a commendation for Harvey's Foundry, Hayle in Cornwall. The award, by the Civic Trust, was given for Phase 2 of this major regeneration project that has seen the creation of quality affordable workshops and studios for the craft and specialised business industry.

The regeneration of the foundry is intended to reinforce the community's cultural identity by celebrating the distinctive history of Hayle that at one time during the industrial revolution produced 80% of the world's steam pumping engines.

Civic Trust Award

On presenting the award the Civic Trust said that the project has brought real benefits to small start-up businesses. The project has taken a group of ruined but locally significant buildings and has retained all of the historic structure to provide desirable live-work units and workshop space.

The Truro office has worked closely with the Plymouth office on the Harvey's Foundry project. Head of the Truro office Alastair Wilson commented, “The projects challenge was to develop the site and to aid economic regeneration of the community as a whole. As a development of regional significance it was essential that the high quality and standards were set and maintained. This award is fantastic as it gives the design team, the contractor J & E Regan, and the clients Penwith District Council & Harvey's Foundry Trust, real recognition of a project that we are all incredibly proud of."
