The Llantarnam Innovation Centre in South Wales, a joint initiative of Torfaen County Borough Council and the WDA, and designed by Cardiff based architects Stride Treglown Davies, has just been completed.
The project incorporates 2,500sqm of accommodation on three floors as a first phase of a 5,000sqm development. It provides lettable office units ranging from 25sqm to 100sqm, with meeting rooms and conference facilities, a business support centre, interactive break out space and touchdown areas.
The building's design was driven by the need for an energy efficient, environmentally sustainable solution. For example, offices face north and east with circulation spaces facing south and west to minimise glazing to these facades. The Centre for Research in the Built Environmentat Cardiff University undertook thermal and daylight modelling to determine the extent of glazing needed to provide satisfactory natural lighting conditions.
The Innovation Centre has achieved a BREEAM excellent rating and its sustainable features included right from the start of the design process differentiate it from other offices.
