Willmott Dixon and Stride Treglown's proposals for Bognor Regis Community College have just been granted planning permission. The scheme provides a new 1800 place secondary school including a 300 place sixth form, to replace the existing inefficient split site schools.
The four storey form of the building directly responds to the need to provide 14 000 sqm of accommodation on a very tight site, which is occupied by a number of other school and community buildings.
A restrained palette of materials has been used to create a layered facade, using colour and texture to set the building in its seaside context.
A bio-mass heating system and assisted natural ventilation will help in achieving a BREEAM rating of Very Good.
The‚ £38.5m scheme, due on site next month, is for West Sussex County Council and was procured through the Improvement and Efficiency South East (previously SECE) framework.
