Stride Treglown's refurbishment of the drab 1970s office block, formerly known as "Greyfriars", for building owners Tyne & Wear Pension Fund, has immensely improved the appearance of the Lewin's Mead area of Bristol.
The re-named "Lewin's Place" has been revitalised with a new double height glazed main entrance and landscaped plaza to provide a sense of arrival and enhance the building's relationship with the public realm.
The ground and first floors' frontage has also been reclad and the redundant upper level walkway and external staircase removed.
As a result the street is much more welcoming to pedestrians with extra space and light.
The environmental performance of the building has been upgraded with high performance internal insulation and replacement of the single glazed windows with double glazing. Secure, covered cycle parking and new shower and changing facilities have also been provided.
