New University of Liverpool EcoResidences Gain Planning Permission

University of Liverpool 710 study bedroom schemeStride Treglown has secured planning permission for new £45m halls of residence for the University of Liverpool.

The 710 study bedroom scheme, including 250-seat refectory, café-bar, retail and office space, is split over two blocks, rising in height to nine storeys, on a brownfield city centre site at the southern end of the campus.

The innovative internal layout will enable the University to offer different types of accommodation to undergraduates, post graduates and visiting academics. It will enhance the University's conference offer with rooms designed to achieve a Quality in Tourism 3-star rating.

The EcoResidences will be at the cutting edge of sustainable design and will feature rainwater harvesting, LED lighting, air-source heat pump and solar-thermal water heating. The development will also feature green roofs with wildlife habitats built into the brickwork. It has achieved a BREEAM 'excellent' pre-assessment rating.

The scheme will start on site immediately with completion due in the summer of 2011.
