Sustainable-Strides-Week kicked off yesterday with an inspiring talk by Biodiversity-by-Design director and influential ecologist, Dr Mike Wells, speaking on 'Biodiversity, Productivity and Profit'.
The subject generated huge interest and enthusiasm looking at the number of staff who squeezed into our Boardroom to hear the talk. The main message seemed to be that we need to take a trip to Switzerland to see how to do ecological design properly or at least that architects, ecologists and landscape architects need to generally start talking to each other more, from the earliest possible stage.
'Low Carbon Monday' also saw the launch of some light-hearted internal competitions – designing a birdbox for Promenade House and a Sustainability Photo competition, and for all staff to take a carbon footprint challenge to work out the eco-saints from the eco-sinners.
Tuesday was 'Water and Waste day' with one of our internal BREEAM assessors giving us an eye-opening talk about waste – it's no surprise to learn that Germany, Austria and the Netherlands send zero waste to landfill.
Wednesday is Ecology Day in which our Chairman Bob Whittington, is giving over his parking space to a more wildlife-friendly use.
Look out for our Green Union Flag flying outside Promenade House, on loan from Ecotricity...
