Stride Treglown was commissioned by Airbus UK in the Autumn of 2008. It comprises a test area of approximately 60,000 sq ft containing rigs for testing the landing gear for the Airbus 350 XWB aircraft. The test area is supported by Avionic suites, control rooms and specialist hydraulic pump rooms, besides the normal plant rooms, administrative functions and welfare facilities required for the building operation.
Several possible sites were identified before the present location was chosen on the Filton, Bristol Campus. The building form very much follows its function and has been designed to compliment and blend with other surrounding facilities. Although industrial in nature, the design encompasses many sustainable measures and the materials for the external envelope were chosen from the Green Guide to Specification. These measures enabled the project to obtain a BREEAM rating of 'Very Good'.
The building will remain for the operating life of the aircraft and was therefore constructed to give a 60 year design life. It was completed on time and within budget.
