Taking a redundant office building in Shoreditch, the stated design objective by the client, Sinclair Beecham, co-founder of Pret A Manger, for the Hoxton Hotel was to create a world class, world beating product offering an exciting, new hotel that was better designed, smarter and more forward-looking that its competition and that should be - modern but classic - futuristic but familiar - new but not trendy - clever but not intimidating - fun but not kitsch.

Whilst the exterior of the building has remained very similar, money and effort has been concentrated where it will be appreciated by the guests, and the inside has been completely transformed. The design The Hoxton Hotel has successfully achieved all these objectives, being voted ‘best UK hotel’ in the 2009 Guardian/Observer Travel Awards. In the words of Sinclair Beecham ‘we describe the hotel as luxury budget – luxury where it matters and budget where it counts’.

The Hoxton has also received a considerable amount of favourable press attention -

‘the bedroom, design by Alastair Bell, cleverly maximises the limited floorspace... lives up to its promise of being the first upmarket, low cost, high quality, no fuss, value for money hotel in London’ Sleeper.

‘the décor is nothing if not eye-catching... the blend of modern and traditional works beautifully’ Weekend.

‘the hotel is sharp, stylish and affordable, the bedrooms are sleek and modern... If you want something a bit different and full of character then this is the place’ Independent.

Condé Nast Traveller states "...the style is hip-industrial, with a touch of luxury: brick walls, leather sofas, and eagle sculptures soaring over the double-height lobby; duck-down duvets and granite bathrooms; and funky lighting..."
