Locking Parklands is the former RAF Training School on the outskirts of Weston-super-Mare. It is being redeveloped by the Homes and Communities Agency, the South West of England Regional Development Agency and St.Modwen.
The site includes high-quality business accommodation, an Incubation Centre for high-tech company start-ups and 1,800 new homes,as well as creating new jobs and a range of leisure and community facilities.
North Somerset Council unanimously approved our Planning Application for 100 new homes and 5,000 sqm of office and innovation centre. The application formed the first phase of the redevelopment of the former RAF Locking site.
The application had to be fast tracked in order to secure £3.5m of government "Kick Start" funding, made available to bring forward schemes that would otherwise not be starting in the current economic climate.
The homes are designed to Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4 and the offices to BREEAM Excellent standard. A highly sustainable community will be created, set within landscaped parklands and forming an attractive and enjoyable place to live and work.
A number of character areas have been designed to produce distinct areas and create places. Ecology corridors and large park areas are included within Phase 1 to reinforce the existing parkland planting and landscaping. The houses and offices have been designed with a limited palette of stone, slate, tile, render, timer and high quality windows and doors.
The architecture is restrained and provides contemporary accommodation in this unique setting.
