The school is based on a model design and when the first phase was completed in 2005 the school was the fifth in a series of schools developed as part of residential development section 106 agreements for Wiltshire county council.

The school is designed with two teaching wings set each side of a hall and supporting accommodation. The first phase provided 7 classrooms in one wing and included a hall and infrastructure to support a second phase that would add a further 7 classrooms, that would be triggered by further residential development.

The second phase commenced in September 2011 and will be ready for the September 2012 intake.

The head teacher is looking forward to an extension that follows the principle of the first phase that has proved so successful.

'Working and learning in a school that is designed to let in the maximum of natural light, provides effective use of space, and that also suits the needs of modern education is a pleasure' Maggie Edwards Head Teacher, Amesbury Archer Primary School.
