Stride Treglown has designed new halls with a central facility that supports the University's aspiration, to create a heart for the new development with admin, dining, social, laundry and post facilities all centralised. This includes the refurbishment of the ground floor of an existing building to create a new reception and administration building for the new halls group.
Locating the new catering building opposite the refurbished facility, with a separate building for the laundry and post room, has created a new courtyard that brings all the students together. The new catering facility provides 400 seats with a variety of food outlets and a bar.
The catering strategy involves creating a flexible menu where the distinction between catered and non catered halls is blurred, with students able to pick and chose which meal offer to pay for.
The new buildings are heated using underfloor heating that is linked into an air source heat pump. Stride Treglown Interiors have created new internal environments whilst Red and Orange, the company's graphic design team, have developed a complete new catering brand identity.
