Heartlands is a £35m Lottery Funded regeneration project that transforms Cornwall's most derelict urban area into an inspirational cultural landscape.

Now designated as part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site; Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape, we have developed the designs for 16 no. Grade II* listed buildings that form the historic centrepiece; Robinsons Shaft mining complex.

Detailed discussions with English Heritage and the Local Conservation Officers ensured the scheme achieved Planning and Listed Building Consents without issue. We led the production of design, tender and construction information.

The listed buildings have been sympathetically and innovatively restored to an extremely high standard to allow its adoption as one of Cornwall's key interpretation sites for the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape World Heritage Site.

Architecturally, the massing of the new-build elements has been crafted to be complimentary to the existing language and form of Robinson's Shaft. The new interventions are contemporary in their design and resonate the essence of the place. Materials key to the region's historic and cultural identity, such as tin, copper and granite, recur throughout.
