The Old Town Hall and Clock Tower are listed grade II and date from the 1850's. The group of buildings also includes the arcaded Corn Exchange at the rear. Over the buildings life there have been several fires, particularly in the recent past.

Stride Treglown were appointed to carry out a building condition survey of all the buildings following the last fire. The survey was limited to areas that could be accessed safely but included a roof top survey, including the Clock Tower which was carried out from a mobile access platform (cherrypicker). Our survey was also to inform regarding the likely need to reinstate the original wall and roof construction so our client could evaluate the viability of restoration and development.

Due to the destruction caused by the fire large parts of the roof had been destroyed leaving the building open to the elements and subsequent decay.
