The Council of the Isles of Scilly are responsible for all public service functions on the islands and thus provide not only the town hall but the schools (see separate case study), the fire stations, the airport, care homes and water and refuse treatment etc. The buildings vary in form from a purpose built airport terminal to adapted buildings which provide the town hall and care homes.
Stride Treglown were appointed to provide an asset management plan incorporating forward maintenance requirements for all the municipal buildings across all the islands. As part of this task we were required to prepare building condition surveys of the buildings and to predict future maintenance requirements and advise of anticipated costs.
Due to the constraints of working on the islands i.e. limited accommodation and transport between the islands being restricted by weather and limited availability, the surveys were programmed to take place over a three year period to feed in to the asset management plan in easy manageable phases.
