The single storey Information Building had been recently constructed as part of the North West Taunton Transport Package (Silk Mills) Park and Ride scheme commissioned by Somerset County Council.

Stride Treglown were instructed by Alfred McAlpine Capital Projects to investigate specific defects primarily relating to the roof and central glazed lantern light with a view to establishing the extent and cause of the defects, We were also asked to consider liability under the terms of the Design and Build Contract under which the building was constructed.

Defects discovered included rainwater ingress in and around the central lantern light. The cause of the defects was found to be due to a contradiction between the design intent and the completed works at the interface between 2 specialist suppliers employed under the main contract. The defects were subsequently remedied.
