The Bretton Centre, originally constructed in the 1970's was being refurbished and extended to provide an up to date shopping environment. The centre also includes a local library.
Stride Treglown were appointed to provide party wall advice and subsequently serve appropriate party wall notices on the various adjoining property owners. As part of the preparation of the party wall awards, schedules of condition of the adjoining properties were taken so that there was a pre-agreed record of the condition of the buildings adjacent to the proposed development before work started.
This commission serves to illustrate that The Party Wall Etc 1996 Act applies to all buildings regardless of age i.e. it doesn't only apply to old buildings but applies equally to very new buildings, e.g. if new excavation is to be carried out in the vicinity of an adjoining building.
