Insole Court is a Grade II* listed mansion house enclosed by ornamental gardens in Llandaff, Cardiff. Although loved by the local community, the mansion house had remained largely vacant for a number of years due to the neglected condition of its internal and external fabric.

Cardiff Council appointed Stride Treglown to design the 1st phase of refurbishment, which included the majority of the ground floor and external fabric of the building. The aim of the scheme was to provide a flexible facility for community use, including space for conferences, weddings, classes and other functions.

As the client hoped to carry out future phased refurbishment of the other parts of the building, Stride Treglown were required to consider the likely future works in order to reduce the impact on the already completed areas.

Great care was taken to retain historic and important architectural features to preserve the building's history as much as possible. Complementary additional WC provisions were included within the scheme to cope with the intended demand.

The refurbishment has successfully retained the character of the building whilst meeting all the requirements of the clients brief.

Stride Treglown was subsequently awarded the design commission for the 2nd phase of refurbishment.
