Stride Treglown's Landscape team, worked on a way-finding design guide for university campuses that included the design of test routes. A successful way-finding system is intuitive; it goes unnoticed until it’s needed. Without knowing where to go and how to get there, a visitor can become late, angry and frustrated.
The document identifies issues that compromise way-finding on site and sets out clear guidance to rectify these. Principles are established and typical design solutions included with recommendations of hard and soft materials, furniture and fittings. Through the implementation of these design solutions in association with the masterplan aspirations for the public realm, effective and stimulating way-finding can be achieved.
The design guide will ensure orientation, circulation and traffic issues are kept to a minimum whilst minimising clutter and enhancing the quality of space throughout the campus.
