Stride Treglown Landscape Architects worked with Redrow Homes to design the key focal open space known as Central Gardens, which provided a public park for a new community.

The landscape approach to the site was derived through the 'genus loci' or 'sense of place' of the site with a concept developed to reflect the important historic site and its continual importance to the local community. Central Gardens was designed to reflect the character of an 'enclave' or enclosure, much the same as many existing traditional formal squares within UK towns and cities.

The location of the Central Gardens is key to its design as it is located on a major route way through the residential area, linking with local facilities and services. A limited palette of materials was developed with year round interest provided through attractive planting and a small play area with informal play features was also located within the park.
