Following the decision to close St Brandons School which had operated from the site for a number of years, Stride Treglown was appointed by the site's owners in 2005 to develop proposals for the Clevedon Hall Estate.

The main Hall is Grade 2* listed and whilst set in extensive grounds, newer additions and school activities had resulted in a mix of architectural styles and quality. Starting with detailed baseline surveys, Stride Treglown managed a large team of sub-consultants working towards the submission of a Development Brief for the site. Draft proposals included an extensive public consultation exercise and manned exhibition.

Following a number of attempts to debate the Development Brief at Committee, our work streams became refocused upon the submission of an application, submitted jointly on behalf of potential purchasers and landowners. Whilst the application was refused by the Council during a period of constructive negotiation and planning officers support, rather than appeal, a renegotiated settlement route was preferred, working with an alternative community interest.

We continue to advise the landowners to reach a successful settlement that maximises the opportunities to bring forward this strategic site within the settlement boundary.
