Stride Treglown's town planners, designers and landscape architects were employed to prepare a Development Plan for The University of Reading's Whiteknights campus, to provide support for the implementation of a £250m programme of capital works there over the next 10 -15 years.
Following the completion of the masterplan Stride Treglown's planners have worked on a number of key projects since adoption of the masterplan: phases 1 and 2 of halls and catering redevelopment programme, comprising a new central food production unit, new dining and social facilities and 1,860 new student bedspaces; new Film Theatre and Television department building; new access routes; and new energy centre for the university.
A detailed review by our landscape architects of the quality and nature of external spaces and its ecological and historical significance was an important precursor to developing strategies for internal access and movement, public realm improvements and sustainability appraisals.
The legibility of external routes and maintenance of the unique qualities of particular parts of the campus were key themes in developing a strategy for coherent development of the Whiteknights over the plan period.
Our commission has been extended to prepare an energy policy for the University, focusing on renewable sources and new technologies, again with impact on the external environment and landscape a central part of our thinking.
