Stride Treglown was commissioned to prepare a Masterplan for Crawford Estates in relation to the reuse and redevelopment of the Seale Hayne Agricultural Campus on the outskirts of Newton Abbot in Devon. Three years prior to this, we led a multi-disciplinary team on behalf of the University during which we looked at reuse strategies for the site, notably the creation of a national centre of excellence for rural enterprises.
Our study concluded that this was not a feasible proposition: in part this led to the University's decision to dispose of the site. Our more recent commission for Crawford Estates involved new landscape and visual impact assessments to inform our Masterplanning duties. Working closely with same team of transport planners and engineers (Scott Wilson) and commercial property specialists (Savills) as we employed as sub-consultants for the University, our proposals supported the Crawford tender bid and promoted the creation of a new mixed use Village, with a capability to expand over time to meet strategic housing requirements.
The first phase provided new local services, recreation facilities and commercial activities, including a hotel and an education hub.
Our proposals were presented to the Local Planning Authority and made the final shortlist for consideration.
