Stride Treglown has been involved as lead consultant in the preparation of a campus development brief for the University of Reading as a mechanism to support the delivery of a £250M programme of capital works over the next 10-15 years.

Our commission requires us to brief and coordinate a team of external sub consultants in environmental, transport and services specialisms, as well as involving our landscape team in a significant amount of analysis and design work.

A detailed review by our landscape architects of the quality and nature of external spaces of the campus and its ecological and historical significance was an important precursor to developing strategies for internal access and movement, public realm improvements and sustainability appraisals. The legibility of external routes and maintenance of the unique qualities of particular parts of the campus were key themes in developing a strategy for coherent development of the Whiteknights over the plan period.

Our commission has been extended to prepare an energy policy for the University, focusing on renewable sources and new technologies, again with impact on the external environment and landscape a central part of our thinking.
