Stride Treglown Transforms Reading University’s Cotton Club

Stride Treglown Interiors has completed a complete revamp of the University of Reading's food and drink venue at the London Road campus.

London Road Eat & Drink, previously known as the Cotton Club, offered a number of unusual period features for the Stride Treglown project team to work with.

Formerly a milk-processing plant and part of the School of Food Sciences, the building’s uniquely industrial feel has now been teamed with a comfortable range of environments where customers can relax with a drink and a snack.

The original North light roof, once hidden behind a suspended ceiling, has been restored, lined and now allows light to flood the space, while the games area now boasts the original glazed bricks which have been stripped of paint to reveal their true charm.

Galvanised steel pendant lamps hang from the ceiling, while a range of modern fitted and loose furniture provide the kind of home comforts students crave. Oak materials and a subtle palette of colours are teamed with a feature wall-covering which really packs a punch.

As a reminder of the past, Stride Treglown Interiors undertook photography of the historic milk bottle collection in the next door Museum of English Rural Life, and these adorn the walls in eclectic frames. Oversized cow graphics, milking stools and grass-effect carpet add the humorous touch in the Wii game area.

Kenton Simons, Head of Stride Treglown Interior Design said, "This was a fantastic project for us to be involved in. We’re really pleased with the results and hope customers enjoy spending time in a relaxed environment much more tailored to its purpose."
