Tyntesfield is one of the most complete Victorian country estates in the country. It was designed to be as self-sufficient as could be at the time and, as such, includes a large stable yard comprising stables, coach house and other associated accommodation. The stable yard and its buildings are grade II listed.
Stride Treglown were appointed in early 2008 to consider the feasibility of converting the upper floor of the stable block into study bedrooms for the use of volunteers and part of the coach house to provide toilet and canteen facilities for working parties and school groups. The commission was extended to a full commission and completion of the works was achieved in June 2009.
The actual stables remain as originally built and will be conserved in this state for future interpretation of these historic facilities. All new work has been designed to avoid any impact on the exteriors of the buildings and minimise the impact internally.
